Introducing Zenmaster

Your new Zenmaster watch is one-of-a-kind. How? Using an 18th century concept called ‘Truchet Tiling’ combined with a mathematical algorithm we create a one of one Japanese zen garden inspired pattern for every Zenmaster watch.

 

That means your dial is as personal to you as your own fingerprint. No two watches are ever the same.

Zen Garden Inspired Dial Pattern

Subtle nods to Japanese culture

  • A one-of-one Japanese zen garden inspired dial pattern on every watch, created with a mathematical algorithm and etched into every dial with precision
  • A tried-and-true Japanese MIYOTA 9015 Premium Automatic Movement, with 15+ years of proven track record
  • Japanese lotus flower petal inspired indicators on the chapter ring
  • Yin and Yang inspired lugs that hug the side of the case
  • All serial numbers start with 108, a number of great significance in zen-buddhism, representing the 108 earthly temptations

Case & Bracelet

  • 40.5 mm case size with an extremely slim non-clunky profile of 10.2 mm thick - and that's including crystal—no cheating
  • Concealed bracelet connection that fits any straight-end 22 mm bracelet or strap
  • Double quick release bracelet (316L SS) with butterfly clasp and screw pins for easy adjustment with the included tool
  • 10 ATM (100 meters / ~330 ft) Water Resistant

Materials

  • Made from 316L Surgical Grade Stainless Steel in a mix of sandblasted matte silver and polished silver finishes
  • A-grade surface coating (IPH), increasing surface hardness of the Zenmaster by 7.5x to protect against scratches, blemishes, sweat, fingerprints and wear marks
  • Sapphire glass on the front and exhibition caseback, treated with anti-reflective coating, for pristine clarity from every angle
  • FKM cut-to-size Rubber strap available as add-ons in multiple colors for a completely new look

In 2020, we, Jordi van Staveren (left) and Alain van den Donk (right), founded pOrtahl® with a mission: to reimagine classic watchmaking for today’s world. 

 

Frustrated by the endless copies of legendary designs flooding the market, we set out to create watches that honor classic watch design while speaking a bold, new, modern design language—and most importantly, without the sky-high price tag.

Join us on this adventure!

In 2022, we launched our first watch, Peacemaker, on Kickstarter & Indiegogo. With 222 backers and 563% funding, it proved our vision resonated.

 

In March 2025 we’re writing the next chapter of pOrtahl® with the Zenmaster—a watch inspired by Japanese zen gardens. Zen gardens (枯山水, karesansui) symbolize balance, simplicity, and peace—offering a moment of calm in the midst of chaos.
